“The rules and these watering times alone will not achieve the needed drought savings in water use. We need customers to cut their use much more than normal.
Remember, no watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to avoid water loss from evaporation. Never water a sprinkler system zone or area more than two days per week.”
Additionally, they are requiring repair of leaking sprinkler systems within 10 days. Along with making sure all components of the sprinkler system are adjusted properly as to not spray asphalt or concrete and to not pull or run-off from the property. Sprinkler systems should also not water during a time when it is raining by means of turning the system off or having a rain sensor which automatically turns the system off.
Denver water also recommends that sprinkler controllers should be set to “Cycle & Soak” style programming. This method (which is how our sprinkler technicians generally program and recommend that sprinkler controllers be programmed) allows shorter cycles with multiple run times to help reduce run-off from when the turf areas reach saturation. Allowing time for the water to drain farther into the soil allows the subsequent cycles to continue to effectively deliver usable water to your plants & grass.
Drip systems are allowed to water as needed but are recommended that you water just enough to keep your trees, shrubs, perennials, vegetables, and annuals healthy. (**Please note that garden beds with popup spray nozzles are included in the mandatory restrictions)
These regulations are in effect for the city and county of Denver as well as the majority of water districts which purchase water from Denver Water (Ken Caryl Water & Sanitation District,
